Common Good Fellow
Washington DC
Catholics in Alliance has initiated a new Common Good Fellowship to recruit an intern to work in its Washington, D.C. office to assist staff with media outreach, public policy research, and online supporter engagement. The Common Good Fellow will be responsible for the following areas:
Media Outreach
- Track Alliance media hits in local, national, and international press, including blogs and other sources
- Recruit a network of college-aged bloggers to disseminate the common good message in the public debate
- Assist the communications department with outreach calls to members of the media
- Brainstorm content for the Alliance’s weekly blog, “Just Words.”
- Assist with compiling news and opinions pieces for weekly Catholic Media Report
Public Policy Research
- Monitor events in both Houses of Congresses, relevant committees, and the Executive Branch that affect our mission and goals
- Publish a weekly summary to staff about developments related to legislation and public policy that impact our core issues and concerns
- Investigate public policy opportunities for the Alliance to amplify awareness of Catholic Social Teaching
Online Supporter Engagement
- Assist Online Organizer in managing Facebook and Twitter accounts by helping develop content and recommendations for expansion
- Research best practices online development strategies for cultivating online donors and supporters
- Create new avenues for college-aged supporters to engage us and our mission
- Help expand the Alliance’s supporter base within the Latino and African-American Catholic communities.
Join a committed and collegial staff in a fast-paced work environment in the heart of the Nation’s Capital. Interns can work a flexible weekly schedule (approximately 10-15 hours a week). All class years encouraged to apply. Interest in Catholic Social Teaching required, and knowledge of public policy and media a plus. This is an unpaid position but small travel and food stipends are available .
