MAT25: Support Peace: Spread this Message

In a speech on Passion Sunday during his visit to the Czech Republic, President Obama echoed positions consistently taken by the Vatican: "Just as we stood for freedom in the 20th century, we must stand together for the right of people everywhere to live free from fear in the 21st century. And as a nuclear power, as the only nuclear power to have used a nuclear weapon, the United States has a moral responsibility to act. We cannot succeed in this endeavor alone, but we can lead it, we can start it. So today, I state clearly and with conviction America's commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons. I know that a call to arms can stir the souls of men and women more than a call to lay them down. But that is why the voices for peace and progress must be raised together."

Please help us spread the word by forwarding this message to 10 friends and encouraging them to support peace by urging the Senate to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.

For more information about additional ways you can support peace, check out Pax Christi USA's national campaign, A New Moment for Nuclear Disarmament (http://www.paxchristiusa.org/news_Events_more.asp?id=1496), which works to engage Catholics and all people of faith and conscience to educate, engage and mobilize their communities to support fundamental changes in U.S. nuclear weapons policies and the establishment of a global verifiable treaty to outlaw all nuclear weapons.
